The Classic Casino
Casino Anna has it all, in classic American style.
by John Child
At five o’clock on a beautiful Saturday afternoon the parking area of the Casino Anna was packed; the attendants were moving vehicles around; and the guards and doormen snapped-to with wide smiles and cheery greetings. As the scene in the parking lot suggested, the house was full of happy people.
A full house at the Anna is saying a lot. With a third level now beautifully appointed and open, this is a big casino. And, close to my expatriate heart, Casino Anna feels like a Nevada establishment. We’re not talking Las Vegas, at least not the new Vegas of giant hotels and spectacles. The Anna feels like the old Las Vegas and like that wonderful gaming town Reno.
One reason is the division of space into three levels and three very different atmospheres. Slots are on the entry level: lots and lots of Slots, far more than any other Nepali casino. Regular Slot Machines, Video Slots, pretty-girls Slots, Japanese Slots, French Slots, American slots and more. There are Video games and Video Poker and a wonderful old mechanical horserace machine. There’s a bar and café-style seating in this area too.
Colour and lighting have always been part of the careful planning for casino designs. The modern trend is subdued: Casino Anna is far more in the classic style. On the first level the carpets are red, the colour of excitement, luck and money. The lighting is dim and the walls almost invisible.
The main gaming hall is upstairs. Here the lights are bright and active. Red again dominates, and cool, relaxing green complements it. There are neon and coloured lights and lots of mirrors. Video screens w ith Keno games are prominent all around the hall. Classic!
The stairwell and a new Video Roulette game separate the three big roulette wheels and gaming tables from a small café and the stage and DJ’s area. There’s another little snack area and some seating at the far end of the big room. Waiters with trays of snacks and drinks circulate busily.
Upstairs the new third level has a large buffet and comfortable seating. There’s another big roulette wheel and more tables for Flush, Blackjack and Baccarat. It’s light, open and airy, with much less activity going on. If the second level is hot, hot, hot, this is the cool room. It’s a brilliant use of space and environment.
Casino Anna has every game you want, a great centre-city location, promotions and bonanzas and a great, classic casino environment. See you there!
