Restaurant Review
Ghar - é - Kebab, Hotel de l’Annapurna
Shreyan Poudyal
The Ghar-é-Kebab embodies the food, ambience and the era it represents – affluence in all aspects.
The Ghar-é-Kebab is a restaurant dedicated to the regal and their luxurious eating habits. Specialising in Mughlai and Tandoori cuisine, the restaurant was established in 1981. Distinguishing itself from the hordes of other Indian restaurants that offer Tandoori food at a fraction of the cost, the Ghar-é-Kebab provides the subtleties and excellence of a true specialty restaurant.
The restaurant embodies the kind of food and era it represents – that of affluence in all aspects. The brilliantly decorated ceiling, the plush ambience, and the silver-coated tableware are some of the amenities add to the experience. The table seating is very well done, providing its customers with an opportunity to savour its delicacies in big group or in privacy. Although food is the main attraction as it should be with every restaurant, Ghar-é-Kebab also has features ghazal programme (live urdu music and songs everyday between 8:00 pm to 10:30 p.m. except on Thursdays.
The Restaurant Manager, Rudra Nath Rimal, has been working here over eight years. He proudly states that the service found at the restaurant is unparalleled. As the evening progressed I noted the personal touch that the Manager was extolling. Every guest is met with individual attention regardless of regularity or personal contact. The restaurant’s culinary talent, Chef Razi Alam Khan hails from India and has been working here for the past twenty-two years. His commitment with the restaurant and his special touch are reflected in the delicacies on a consistent and spell-bounding gastronomic experience.
Must-haves include Chicken Tikka Masala with Rumaali roti for non-vegetarians, and Palak Paneer Sabzi Mela for vegetarians. The Tandoori Platter, Kashmiri Gosht and Paneer Tikka are some of the other renowned delicacies that hold a great reputation and help to attract many customers to the Ghar-é-Kebab, over and over again. A lavish dinner menu packs in a full house on most nights.
The Ghar-é-Kebab, with its lavish and sumptuous food, combined with great service stands out as a capital hot spot – a truly sumptuous and gratifying dining experience.
